Apple will host an event Thursday where it’s widely expected the tech giant will roll out a new MacBook computer. USA TODAY will provide live updates on this page as they unfold. Scroll down for more:
1:50 p.m.: A very cool trick is the ability to quick switch between profiles. Schiller returns to the stage to log in, and with a simple touch of the finger, the MacBook immediately flips to his profile.
1:48 p.m.: Federighi says users will be able to customize the Touch Bar to choose which functions will appear in which apps. Primary system controls can be changed, too, such as screenshot control.
1:45 p.m.: In Safari, you can preview Tabs, or view Favorites. The full screen shows a single image, while a strip along the Touch Bar shows a quick reel of available controls. Video controls also appear here, including scrubbing and other video playback options.
1:42 p.m.: Craig Federighi is up next to demo Touch Bar. All the standard function buttons remain in the primary Bar menu, with the addition of a Siri button. In the Mail app, you can use Touch Bar to reply, start a message. Basically, Touch Bar brings the type of smartphone interface functions on to a notebook computer. Very interesting.
1:40 p.m.: The panel is a multi-touch retina display responding to both gestures and touch, called the Touch Bar. The bar will change depending on what app you use. In Safari, it shows icons for bookmarks. In Photos, editing and cropping tools appear on the Touch Bar. When typing, it features predictive text. Schiller also confirmed Touch ID will be available on the Mac.
1:38 p.m.: The trackpad is twice as big, and includes Force Touch technology. The keyboard uses a butterfly switch mechanism for better responsiveness, says Schiller.
