RICHMOND, Va. and LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., Feb. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — McKesson Medical-Surgical and Sysmex America today announced plans for McKesson to be the exclusive distribution partner for Sysmex’s new XW-100 automated hematology analyzer, the first Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-waived, complete blood count (CBC) diagnostic instrument. Once prepared for each day’s use, the Sysmex XW-100 allows health care professionals to provide patients with blood test results in as few as three minutes.

“The XW-100 is an exciting health care innovation that will help to improve quality of care, practice efficiency and patient satisfaction,” said Doug Shaver, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Laboratory at McKesson Medical-Surgical. “Sysmex’s XW-100 is a compact, accurate and reliable device that is incredibly easy to use.”

The new Sysmex instrument’s ease of use makes it possible for tests to be conducted by in-house health care professionals in just a few easy steps, without the certification required for the operation of more complex diagnostic equipment. The XW-100 offers step-by-step, on-screen guided prompts and instructions, and operational safety checks to ensure that the user does not require any formal training. Its innovative software contains safety lockouts, fail-safe and alert mechanisms to provide accurate results.

“Our partnership with McKesson allows us to offer this breakthrough product to physicians through the largest and most established health care company in the United States,” said Andy Hay, Chief Operating Officer for Sysmex America. “The XW-100 expands Sysmex into new health care markets, including pediatrics, urgent care, surgery centers and health systems. McKesson is uniquely qualified to connect Sysmex and this device with the physicians serving patients at primary care practices throughout America.”

New Sysmex analyzer rigorously developed, and built on 50 years of diagnostic leadership

The XW-100 is the culmination of a rigorous multi-year research, development and testing effort to develop a high-quality hematology analyzer able to deliver accurate and reliable results in a CLIA-waived primary care setting. The device is built on the company’s trusted and proven technology honed by Sysmex scientists over the past half-century. Today, Sysmex is the hematology diagnostic leader in the U.S., Asia and Europe. According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2017-2018 list of best hospitals, nine of the top ten hospitals in the U.S. rely on Sysmex hematology analyzers to treat their patients.

Full launch expected in spring 2018

While the XW-100 will be introduced in select medical practices next month, its full launch is expected in the spring of 2018. McKesson Medical-Surgical and Sysmex are developing a sales process that will allow the two companies to fulfill customer demand as smoothly and quickly as possible once device shipments begin.
