The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously advanced a bill that would extend the current hours of service rule for truck drivers.

The bill allots $56.5 billion to the United States Department of Transportation, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development for fiscal year 2017. The HOS provision would prevent the 2013 version of HOS regulations from being restored unless USDOT proves it advances safety.

The provision was meant to be included in last year’s government spending bill but was erroneously left out of the final version.
