While the Santa Ana winds will affect much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, the strongest winds will be focused across the mountains and most valleys where there will be the greatest threat of rapid fire spread and large fire growth. The strongest winds are expected Saturday night into Sunday morning when gusts of 45 to 55 mph and locally higher are possible for the mountains with gusts of 35 to 45 mph possible in the valleys. Elevated fire weather conditions will be possible for coastal areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties over the weekend due to gusty Santa Ana winds and lowering humidities. …FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES INCLUDING THE SANTA MONICA RANGE… The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty northeast winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon. * Winds…Northeast 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. * Relative Humidity…Falling to between 5 and 15 percent. * Impacts…The combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry fuels will potentially bring critical fire weather conditions. Any new fire ignitions will have the potential for large growth with rapid fire spread. A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
