SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Up your Stewardship Travel knowledge and awareness with local innovators at the fifth annual Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Celebration from January 13-February 28, 2018. The CA Highway 1 Discovery Route in Coastal San Luis Obispo County (SLO CAL), along with several local non-profits including California State Parks and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, invite you to enjoy a selection of 36 Coastal Discovery events and award-winning Stewardship Travel activities that will enhance your connection to the nature and culture of the California Central Coast and the people who live here. Throughout this six-week celebration, visitors have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local culture, marine life, coastal heritage and natural attractions with the scientists, naturalists and locals who bring this program to life.

What is Stewardship Travel? 
The CA Highway 1 Discovery Route’s award-winning Stewardship Travel Program provides a unique menu of over 50 activities where visitors can stay, play, care and connect deeper with local residents, scientists, naturalists, wildlife and heritage sites throughout the year. During the annual Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Celebration, additional Stewardship activities are offered inviting visitors to add new meaning and fun while immersing deeply in the natural and cultural heritage experiences that California’s unique Central Coast has to offer.

As the H1DR enhances its award-winning Stewardship Travel Program, visitors will appreciate the Wildlife Viewing and Stewardship Tips. Additionally, H1DR partnered with The Whale Trail, a nonprofit organization in partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fisheries, National Marine Sanctuaries (West Coast region), and other national marine conservation organizations, to support our shared mission to inspire appreciation and stewardship for the marine environment.

Free iWERKS Film at Hearst Castle: Disneynature Oceans 
Don’t miss the annual Coastal Discovery & Stewardship Film Festival at the Hearst Castle Theater, Saturdays at 6pm throughout this six-week celebration. This year’s feature film Disneynature Oceans is a story about remarkable creatures under the sea showcasing stunning images as they journey into the depths of a wonderland filled with mystery, beauty and power. Incredible state-of-the-art underwater filmmaking will take your breath away as you migrate with whales, swim alongside a great white shark and race with dolphins at play.
