Rain in advance of this low will overspread Upper Michigan tonight. With the low forecast to lift into eastern Upper Michigan, the rain will mix with and then change to wet snow over the northwest third of the U.P. by daybreak on Thursday. This wet snow will fall moderately at times during the day on Thursday, especially over the higher terrain of the Keweenaw Peninsula, Baraga and western Marquette Counties. Rain may be mixed with the snow through the day on Thursday over the lower elevations near Lake Superior. By the time the precipitation diminishes on Thursday evening, expect as much as 2 to 4 inches of snow across the higher terrain of the Keweenaw Peninsula, and 1 to 3 inches over the higher terrain of Baraga and western Marquette counties. Any snow accumulation near Lake Superior and across far southeast Marquette County will be less than an inch. Since the accumulating snow will be wet and heavy, expect snow removal to be difficult. The snow may cause sporadic power outages, especially since gusty northeast winds will occur. Wet and slushy snow accumulation on untreated roads will make for dangerous driving conditions as well.
